Avoid
These Mistakes
When Selecting Tuxedos
Mistake #1
Selecting Formal Wear from a Catalog or Magazine Without seeing
it in person
1. Seeing is believing when selecting a tuxedo. Visits to a
formal wear specialty shops are a must. Only then can you know
for sure that a particular tuxedo is right for you. These stores
carry designer styles in stock and can answer many questions.
Choose a shop with a reputation for carrying a wide selection of
formal wear stock and accessories, "In Stock" is
important because special orders are often shipped in the wrong
size and there is rarely time for reorders, and getting fitted in
the store after you have made your selection.
Tuxedos can really look good in a catalog or magazine. But more
than one groom has been disappointed when it arrives.
Play it safe. Elect a tuxedo after you have seen it in person.
Mistake#2
Getting fitted In the Home
Experience shows mistakes are dramatically reduced when you get
fitted in the store after selecting your tuxedo.
Every style of tuxedo has a different feel, a different cut,
requiring its own unique set of alterations.
You will save time in the long run by coming into a store,
selecting a tuxedo you have seen in person and then getting
fitted.
Mistake#3
Wearing the Wrong Suit for Hour of the Wedding
To a large extent the suit you select is based on your attitude
and degree of formality you like in your wedding, regardless of
the time of day. However, we do consider these guideline:
--Daytime formal wear (Stroller and cutaways) should be worn at
certain times of the day. Check with your formal specialist.
--Black tails are not appropriate for morning ceremonies
-Ushers should never wear a coat more formal than the Groom.
Mistake#4
Renting Discount Formal Wear in the Belief You'll Receive first-rate
High Quality Tuxedos.
Beware of discount formal wear. Quality clothing is more than a
matter of cost. If you pay a lot less, you'll probably receive a
lot less. Quality has to do with classic timelessness, luxurious
feel, comfort durability versatility and elegance. Understand you
may "pay the price" if you select a discount tuxedo.
Mistake #5
Failure to Double Check Accessories before Your Tuxedo Pick up
Day.
Be sure to pay attention to every detail on the day you pick up
your tuxedo. Items such as cummerbunds, vests, over-the calf
stockings (to match your tuxedo color) pocket squares, cufflinks
and studs all contribute to creating a bridal party with a total
look. Ties, cummerbunds and vests are still found in many designs
and soft pastels shades. However, the key to a grooms look is to
be traditional by keeping accessories in black or white and
letting the colors be picked up by his ushers.
Mistake #6
Not Having Measurements Taken By a Formal Wear Specialist
Properly fitted formal wear is a must for comfort as well as
looks. A shop that stocks its own formal wear gives you more
control over fit and any other changes or alterations.
When out of state measurements are required, insist your men get
fitted in a formal wear specialty shop. Then the completed size
slips should be mailed back to the groom who will pass them on
the rental company. It makes a difference.
Mistake#7
Not trying Your Tuxedo On In the Store.
When the wedding date rolls around, it is very important that all
the men in your party pick up and try their tuxedos on two to
three days before the wedding. Although alterations are minimized
when fittings have been done in the store, you should still find
out if any adjustments or replacements are necessary.
